love birds

so for our wedding back in July 2013 i decided that a piece of it would come from myself and so i took some time to visit the art of origami and make every one of our guests a small diy favour that would sit nicely as part of each of their place settings.  this favour would be in the shape of an orizuru (折鶴 ori- "folded," tsuru "crane"), or paper crane, it is a design considered the most classic of all japanese origami and when a thousand are strung together they are called senbazuru (千羽鶴), some legends say that  a thousand cranes will bring you eternal good luck, i may not have reached a thousand or strung them together but just making enough for each of my guests was a challenge and i really believe it brought us good luck on our day.

so why am i bringing this up now? well tonight i found a lovely little blog from anthropologie eu on the topic of origami love birds and what better time to try out origami skills again considering 14th february is nearly upon us. so with Washi (和紙) paper remaining from our wedding i will let you know how it goes. but in the meantime check out the link above and have a go yourself, may be add a little heart felt note to your bird and let it fly with your loved one, it may just make them smile.  remember it's the thought on valentines that matters the most and this is a pretty cute one for me.
