grim up north? i really don't think so!

last weekend we returned home from a well earned rest in the north of england.  i couldn't have been happier, we had two amazing weeks and it was indeed not "grim up north".
our second week was a revelation for me, i have been to newcastle many times and i love the city and its people, it's lively and changing as a city. but if you were to have asked me had i travelled further afield in the county of this lovely warm city, i would have previously had to say my experience was limited.  now i can say that i have pushed my boundaries and embraced the north east coast.
i was expecting a blustery coast and a need for my wind cheater during the holiday. instead i met glorious sunshine and my shorts.
really we had a fab time and we weren't even staying in some fancy hotel or quaint cottage, but instead we were in  oscar our campervan in a field facing the north sea and all it had to throw at us.
the days were counted not in hours but in experiences and life was altogether chilled.  i am still finding it hard to get stressed or worked up and that's even after a week back at work in london.
below i am going to share with you the things we were exposed too in pictures i hope it inspires you to go visit, i could not but highly recommend it to everyone, who needs a holiday. who needs one in the mediterranean? trust me if you go you may even find yourself wanting to go back for more and you may even be putting you passport away.

newcastle was our start and the birthplace of tim,

then there was time to...

beadnell bay campsite was our home for a week, iyou can imagine how hard it was to pack up.

a coastal walk along the bay to beadnell harbour was interesting on a day where the fret was right in.

seahouses forms fond memories of fish and chips from lewis' a must if you find your way there yourself, next time it will be a trip out to the farne islands to see the wildlife for me... i am told that the golden gate boat is your source there.

bamburgh the king of all castles and the home of one of rick steins local heroes the butcher (carters), its a little marvel and full of all sort of delights the shop...

and as for its beach well the following pictures tell it all.

really bamburgh is as pretty as this picture tells you

we chose the easy route onto lindisfarne (holy island) but its a tick to walk the pilgrims way next time.

this man had lungs on him he must have played the whole time we were there without a break.

then there was dunstanburgh castle a pretty ruin, painted by turner i believe and probably many others but again a memory lane walk for tim.

this truly was my favourite chill out zone, low newton by the sea one must cool off after a day on the beach at the local ship inn and may be sit out on the green with your shoes kicked off

finally if you like your beaches to be remote try ross back sands, it isn't signposted but head for ross and a telephone box and you will indeed find it at the end of a walk across farmer's fields and dunes, it is worth it!

craster brings fishy memories for tim and he believes its the smoking kippers of robsons as a child that put him of fish for life, although he will eat cod at a push! anyway i bought some for myself.

i know milo our pup is itching to get back to the grand open spaces and the beaches he could run and rummage for miles on. damn so am i! there really is too much still to be sought.

the things you are passionate about are not random, but your calling
